The Importance of Girls Weekends
Usually when the invitations go out about Girls Weekends, I immediately RSVP – No. Insert sad face here. My weekends are typically spent at the hockey rink, baseball field, working my second job, etc. There are very few opportunities for me to get away for a weekend. Aside from the financial aspect, it just never fits into my hectic life.
So, when the invitation to the CFCA Ladies Cabin Weekend 2018 appeared in my inbox, I was so close to clicking the NO button. I looked at my January 2018 calendar. Wow. I’m not working that weekend. Um. Ok. Then I checked my parenting schedule. Double wow. No Ben. I triple checked the dates and made sure that I didn’t pick up a shift for that weekend or switch Ben’s schedule with his dad. After counting out the weekends three times, I responded on November 28th.
“OMG! I can goooooo!”
This past weekend I traveled up to Franconia, NH for a weekend of snowboarding, dancing, eating and drinking with a rad group of ladies. Whenever I prioritize quality time with friends I am never disappointed. It usually takes lots of effort, but it’s well worth it. And this weekend was no exception.
Kara talked about hygge last week on the blog. Nothing says hygge like staying at a gorgeous cabin in the woods with no television, spotty cell service and a fireplace. There were no private rooms. We played games, assembled puzzles, shared meals and so much more. More importantly, we were ourselves. Girls weekends are important for so many reasons and here is why:
1. No judgment.
I didn’t blow dry my hair all weekend. Did anyone care? Nope. Ready for that second (maybe third) tequila cocktail? Go for it! One of the best moments of the weekend was playing Cards for Humanity and laughing so hard that we couldn’t speak over inappropriate comments. Guys – you would be amazed at the stuff women find amusing.
2. Self Esteem.
I tried snowboarding for the first time this weekend. All of my friends were encouraging and couldn’t wait to hear about my new experience. Sometimes you just need a nice pat on the back to tell you that you are doing a good job.
3. Recharging.
When you feel your best, you'll do your best. Occasionally, we all need to step back and relax. Everyone has a different way of relaxing and it was all encouraged this weekend.
4. Reconnecting.
All of our lives are busy. Most of us are mothers. Some are not. Some are not yet. Some won’t ever be but that doesn’t matter. Life can be hectic. Being away with friends gives you an opportunity to actually hear what is going on in their lives. Not a quick text or email but details. Discussions, details and emotions.
5. Happiness.
I was counting the days until the weekend arrived. I loved the company while I was there and I will cherish the memories that were created. Happiness is living your best life. What better way to live your best life than with friends.
*A little shout-out to Whitney for putting together this awesome video to document our adventure.*
